The desk's standing view: Hanwha Ocean is the Korean yard most likely to appear in a European naval or offshore file in the next three years. The Hanwha group bought it to build a defence and energy platform, not to run a merchant yard, and its European activity follows that logic.
For European suppliers, the practical point is that Hanwha Ocean buys differently from the old DSME. Procurement is centralised, group-level, and receptive to long-term supply agreements. For European governments and primes, the point is that it will bid, and it will partner with a local yard to do so.
